Text: (1 Timothy 4:7-8) But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;

 

8 For bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. (NASB) New American Standard Bible 

 

Introduction: God’s eternal plan is to ensure that every Christian, (every believer, every disciples) of his, will ultimately be conform to Christlikeness  

 

(Romans 8:29) 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; (NASB)

 

 

(1 John 3:2) 3Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. (NASB)

 

  • We will change “when he appears” so “we shall be like him”, Similar, (in appearance, in character) like manner  

 

  • Yes, the scripture says, “We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is”, but until then

 

 

(Hebrews 12:14) 14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (NIV) 

 

 

1. How does one become conformed to the image of His Son Christ? 

 

Through the road of practicing of Spiritual Disciplines

  • What are Spiritual Disciplines 

Studying His Word, also, (reading, meditating), Prayer, (fasting, time alone with Him) worship, evangelism, serving, stewardship, 

(1 Timothy 4:7-8) But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; 8 For bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. Present Life 

  • Why spiritual discipline is important in our life, we cannot produce enough righteousness to impress God and gain admittance into heaven. 

 

The whole goal is that you and I become more like Jesus Christ. How? 

  • We fine very clear in 1 Timothy 4:7; “Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;

 

 

Through the road of practicing of Spiritual Disciplines

  • What are Spiritual Disciplines 

Studying His Word, also, (reading, meditating)

Prayer, (fasting, time alone with Him) 

Worship, evangelism, serving, stewardship

 

Conclusion: 

God wants for us to 

 

  • to know Him and love Him (by worshiping Him) 
  • to grow in Him 
  • to serve Him 
  • to share Him to others
