Luke 11:1

Introduction:

One reason many Christians pray so little is that they haven’t learned about prayer

  • No matter how weak or strong your prayer life is right now, we can learn to grow even stronger

  • The Bible says we must pray for the glory of God, pray in His will, pray in faith and pray in the name of Jesus

  • The reason His disciples wanted to know how to pray was that they had seen and heard Jesus pray constantly

  • It was His custom to retire alone to pray and the disciples saw and overheard the Lord praying

  • So, in the disciples, a desire was born in their hearts to pray like Christ

  • My friends, our Lord Jesus Christ is at God’s right hand making intercession for us

  • He is our great Intercessor. And it is still a good idea to ask Him to teach us to pray

  • This is an appropriate request to ask, “Lord, teach me to pray”

Teaching about Prayer

1 Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

Conclusion:

  • To pray as expected, as a mature Christian, or a growing child of God, and to do it effectively, we must say as the disciples said to Jesus “Lord, teach us to pray”

  • The disciples wanted to pray as Christ prayed, we can ask Him the same petition or request
